Organized Konfusion Discography + Demo Tape
Organized Konfusion, Prince Po & Pharoahe Monch, has been on the scene through all the greatest times of hip-hop and evolved with the scene as it was changing. Originally Prince Po was the MC and Pharoahe was a beatboxer for him. Luckily, Monch learned he was a dope MC and we weren’t robbed of one of the greatest MCs of all time. From 91 to 97 the Queens duo was prominent on the scene with three full album releases (and a demo released in 89 under the name of Simply II Positive). However, the interesting thing is how each album reflects the year it was released perfectly, yet stay true to Organized Konfusion.

The first album, released 1991, was a self-titled introduction to all things Organized. The album stays true to the upbeat, positive, and political type music that was being released at the time, but it definitely stands out from the rest.

When the 2nd album came out, Stress: The Extinction Agenda, you could definitely tell it was influenced by the release of 36 chambers a year earlier. The first half of the album is dark and moody, like 36 chambers, but it slowly evolves into the lighter side of hip-hop and brings you back to classic OK style. Each song has a distinct theme/emotion and I think this is what really makes the album classic. That and the blossoming of Pharoahe Monch’s skills on the mic. Goddamn!!! (Listen to his verse on ‘Bring it on’ and you will know what I mean.)

The third, and last, product of the organisms is no less dope than the first two. The Equinox is a more polished piece of work in terms of production–as it had to be since it was released in 1997, towards the end of the golden age. Hip-hop had come a long way since their first album and so have they. The album follows a loose plot, almost like Raekwon’s ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’, with a series of skits to let each song flow to the next.
Oh, how could I forget to give you this little gem of a demo tape??? Organized Konfusion originally called themselves Simply II Positive. Pretty good quality for a demo too (recording- and dopeness-wise).
